Learn-to-swim Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
Prerequisites
None - Participants start at age 5
Learning Objectives
- How to enter and exit the water
- Submerging under water
- Bobbing
- Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
- Front and back glides and floats
- Recover to vertical position
- Roll from front to back and back to front
- Alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back
- Alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back
- Combined arm and leg actions on front and back
Skills to be Mastered to Move to Level 2:
Student must be able to consistently demonstrate the following skills:
- Swim on front with face in the water, take a breath, continue swimming (independently about 5 yards)
- Roll over from front to back and float for 5-10 seconds (independently)
- Swim on back using arms and/or legs (independently about 5 yards)
