Parent and Child

Parent & Child (6 months - 3 years)

This is a 30 minute class designed for children ages 6mo-3yo to become comfortable in the water and learn basic swimming skills. Classes include activities and songs to teach swimming on front and back, floating, gliding, submerging and entry/exit from the water. A parent or guardian must accompany the swimmer.

Purpose: Introduce infants and toddlers to the water in a fun, safe setting. Build confidence and skills for Preschool lessons.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 6 months or older & parent or guardian must participate in the water.

Goals:

  1. Build confidence and comfort through songs & play in the water
  2. Enter & exit the water safely
  3. Face in water (1-3 sec)
  4. Glide from platform to instructor 
  5. Submerge, resurface, & float on back (5-10 sec)

Beginner Preschool

Beginner Preschool - Introduction to Water Skills (Ages 3-4)

This is a 30 minute beginner class designed for children ages 3-4 to start exploring independence in the water. Skills to be learned in this level include submerging under water, floating on front and back, and gliding. Once these skills are mastered, students will progress to the Advanced Preschool class.

Purpose: Build confidence in the water and introduce foundational water safety skills.

Prerequisites: Must be 3 - 4 years old.

Goals:

  1. Enter & exit water safely with assistance
  2. Face in water (1-3 sec)
  3. Glide from platform to instructor independently
  4. Float on back independently (5-10 sec)

Advances to Advanced Preschool 

Advanced Preschool

Advanced Preschool (Ages 3-4)

This is a 30 minute advanced class designed for children ages 3-4 to start exploring independence in the water. Skills to be learned in this level include making forward progress on front and back with various arm and leg techniques, rolling over independently, and learning how to control breathing while swimming. Once these skills are mastered, students will progress to the Level 2 class.

Purpose: Build the skills needed to swim and float safely and independently.

Prerequisites: Submerging for 1-3 seconds, float on back for 5-10 seconds without assistance, and must be 3 - 4 years old.

Goals:

  1. Enter & exit water safely independently 
  2. Glide and swim on front with arm and leg action to instructor (5 yds)
  3. Roll over and swim on back with arm and leg action to instructor (5 yds)
  4. Demonstrate taking a breath independently

Advances to Level 2

Beginner Level 1

Beginner Level 1 (Ages 5+)

This is a 30 minute beginner class designed for children ages 5 & up to start exploring independence in the water. Skills to be learned in this level include submerging under water, floating on front and back, and gliding. Once these skills are mastered, students will progress to the Advanced Level 1 class.

Advances to Level 1 Advanced Swimmers

Advanced Level 1

Advanced Level 1 (Ages 5+)

This is a 30 minute advanced class designed for children ages 5 & up to start exploring independence in the water. Skills to be learned in this level include making forward progress on front and back with various arm and leg techniques, rolling over independently, and learning how to control breathing while swimming. Once these skills are mastered, students will progress to the Level 2 class.

Purpose: Build the skills needed to swim and float safely and independently.

Prerequisites: Submerging for 1-3 seconds, float on back for 5-10 seconds without assistance, and must be 5 years or older.

Goals:

  1. Hold breath and glide to instructor (1-3 sec)
  2. Swim on front with arm and leg action (5 yds)
  3. Roll over from front to back, & back to front with float
  4. Swim on back with arm and leg action (5 yds)

Advances to Level 2

Level 2

Level 2

This is a 30 minute class for students who have mastered the skills in Advanced Preschool or Advanced Level 1. Students entering into this level are able to swim independently on their fronts and back 5 yards and roll over to breathe/float independently. Students will now begin to work on formal strokes for distances between 5-15 yards. They will work on front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, treading, and jumping and submerging to deeper depths.

Purpose: Transition from basic comfort to formal stroke development.

Prerequisites: Independent 5 yd swim on front & back, back float for 5-10 sec

Goals:

  1. Develop basic competency in all 5 strokes
  2. Swim 15 yards for Front Crawl & Backstroke
  3. Introduce Breastroke, Butterfly, & Elementary Backstroke
  4. Tread water (30-60 sec)

Advances to Level 3

Level 3

Level 3

This is a 30 minute class for students who have mastered the skills in Level 2. Students entering into this level know the basics of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke and can swim between 10-15yards.They should be comfortable treading water for 30-60s and jumping into water 5-7ft. In this level swimmers will strengthen their strokes, improve technique, and build endurance. They will begin swimming distances of 15-25yd, treading for 60-120s and submerging to depths of 7ft in various ways.

Purpose: Strengthen strokes, improve technique, and build endurance.

Prerequisites: Competency in all 5 strokes, 15 yd swim Front Crawl & Backstroke, tread 30–60 sec

Goals:

  1. Develop advanced breathing, timing, and stroke technique in all 5 strokes
  2. Swim 25 yards for Front Crawl & Backstroke
  3. Swim 15 yards for Breaststroke, Butterfly, & Elementary Backstroke
  4. Introduce open turns
  5. Tread water for 60-120 seconds

Advances to Level 4

Level 4

Level 4

This is a 30 minute class for students who have mastered the skills in Level 3. Students entering into this level have a solid foundation of the front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke and can swim each between 15-25yards.They should be comfortable treading water for 60-120s and jumping into water 5-7ft as well as submerging to those depths. In this level, swimmers will build stamina, refine advanced strokes, and prepare for swim team.

Purpose: Build stamina, refine advanced strokes, and prepare for swim team.

Prerequisites: Competency in all 5 strokes, 25 yd swim Front Crawl & Backstroke, 15 yd swim for Breaststroke, Butterfly, & Elementary Back, treading water for 60-120 sec

Goals:

  1. Build distance & endurance for swim team
  2. Swim 50 yards for Front Crawl & Backstroke
  3. Swim 25 yards for Breaststroke, Butterfly, & Elementary Backstroke
  4. Introduce flip turns & racing starts

Advances to the Blue Dolphins Pre-Swim Team

Level 4 / Pre-Swim Team

Level 4 / Pre-Swim Team

This is a 45 minute class that expands upon Level 4 skills and begins to introduce swimmers to competitive swimming. Swimmers in this group will focus on front crawl, back stroke, breaststroke and butterfly for distances of 25-50 yards. They will also learn open turns and flip turns, as well as diving. Swimmers in this group have the option to compete in swim meets but are not required to do so.
